Horchow
One of my ongoing projects- admittedly on the back burner right now- is decorating the guest room. I guess rooms. Given that our household is sans children, we have two rooms that exist solely for housing our guests. I've nicknamed one the "Sea" room, because of its coastal influence and the other the "Safari" room, largely because of the Ralph Lauren paint color. Kind of sad, I know.
I need new bed linens for the Safari room, which currently contains a queen-sized bed (as does the Sea room). However, lately I've been gravitating towards rooms with two twin beds, perhaps in part because it reminds me of visiting my grandparent's house and staying in the room with two twins with my sister. Since these rooms will eventually have children in them (and the guests will be shifted to their own yet-to-be-built private getaway on the terrace level) I also am trying to be somewhat practical. Is it better to have 2 twin beds (perfect for sleepovers!) or one queen (perfect for the growing kid- who wants to sleep in a twin bed all their life?)
Let's take a look at some of the double twin bed options...
Above is the room setting from Horchow. I LOVE these bed linens and think one could dress them up or down.
Next is a very pretty room- perfect for the daughter I hope to have one day. Note the pink elephant on the floor! Perhaps a little girly for visitors though and a great way to guarantee I'd have a boy (not that there is anything wrong with that and of course, kids are still a couple of years off).
Decorpad
This next option looks a little stark to me (perhaps peaceful to some!) but I imagine these fabulous canopies in a room with tall raftered ceilings to add some warmth. Love them.
Apartment Therapy- Cote Bastide
This next room is just fabulous- with touches of aqua, a sense of a canopy (I want to see the top of the beds!), and rather timeless though there are touches of current trends- bolster pillows and plates on the wall. I really like incorporating small chairs at the end of the bed- instead of the bench you'd see on a bigger bed. I think this one is my favorite.
Another great room with imho classic design and modern elements- check out that bedside table! And the nailhead beds. The room is probably on the smaller side as well, but doesn't look cramped.
Apartment Therapy-Chicago
This next one must be in a perfect cottage getaway. The beds appear to be built in to stair-step like frames. I can't imagine being the one staying at the top bed and having to get up in the middle of the night though!
Traditional Home
I love the shot of pink here, as it's bright and cheerful, but not overly girly. The black seems to anchor everything.
Domino
This next room is a very inviting-looking room- one I could see working quite well as a guest room. Love the mirror placement on the bedside table.
A trundle bed could be an option too- though doesn't seem as guest-friendly.
Southern Living
This next room only hints at the other bed, so it's hard for me to get a great view. But the glimpse still indicates a serene, relaxing room (though I hate the wallpaper).
Cottage Living
This next one has a little French cottage chic note. I really like the mix and match iron beds and pillows. Somehow, it seems to work.
Cottage Living
This next one is a bit busy for me but there are elements that I like- the stripped chair, pink and orange shams...
Country Living
And the last image, from Decorpad (wish I knew the designer...anyone?) This is a great big room with fun Chinese wall panels. Love the textured wallpaper, bolster pillows and mini benches.
Decorad
OK, lied. With that last picture, I think I have to add these two rooms, which caused quite controversy in blogworld, I've found. Not sure where/if the above room fits in? But I like it best!

Next up- cozy guest rooms with double/queen beds.
What's your thought on twin beds v. a queen?
-Emmie
I always thought two twin beds for a guest room was a great idea because not all guests are couples. I would have done that in our guest room except that it's too small for two beds. If you have the space, I would totally go for two beds. That third photo is swoon-worthy!
ReplyDeleteI'll take any of those bedrooms. :) Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteI do so love the two bed bedroom. We have enough space for both of our boys to have their own rooms--but we are putting them in the same room together. I just think that it would be so much more fun?
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration for decorating their rooms, although I do love that pink, little girls room!
I can't wait to have a home with a guest room!! You're killing me with all these beautiful images. I love the idea of having twin beds. Like you, I'd visit my grandma and she had them in our guest room. I always wanted an extra bed in my bedroom for my friends!
ReplyDeleteHow cute are those stair-steppy twins? But I don't think you can go wrong with either. A bed is fun to dress, no matter what its size.
ReplyDeleteSince you need new bedding for the Safari room, put twins in there and buy new twin bedding. Your guest could choose between the two rooms.Couples who really want to sleep together would obviously choose the Sea room.
ReplyDeleteAfter your retreat is built, then replace the bed in the Sea room with twins, if that is still what you want.
Easy for me to say, right????

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI'm 21 many years old as well as a student. off-late I've been getting signs
and symptoms of PCOD and my doctor informed me that inorder to cure I have gotta lose fat so as
to get it cured (BTW I'm 94kgs and my height is 5.five) and she also suggested me this dietician who's absolutely nothing but a distributor of herbalife (she genuinely doesn seem like a appropriate dietician
whatsoever). Greater than understanding my queries she was focussed on selling these merchandise to me.
She asked me to eat it and promises that I'd shed 10 15 kgs in just a month which we all know is unhealthy. I am confused cuz I am reading each positive and negative comments and mostly these are so expensive. She advised me to possess this chocolate shake which can be about 1500 and claims it'll
get more than in 15 days and 2 far more boxes of protein and a few afresh powder collectively costing me Rs.
4500 just for a thirty day period. Even when I am okay with buying it, once I'm done losing fat and stop it, is it gonna leave me with any problems or am I gonna gain back again all my weight?
I'm confused!

Lemons have a low, highly acidic pH, which is attributable to their citric acid content.

JamesK,
ReplyDeleteI have the opening of Vaclav
Havel's address to the US congress, February 21, 1990 as my favourite quote on my facebook pageDear Mr. Speaker,
Dear Mr. President,
Dear senators and members of the House,
Ladies and gentlemen:
My advisors have advised me, on this important occasion, to speak in Czech. I never know why. Perhaps they wanted you to enjoy the sound of my mother tongue. The last time they arrested me, on October 27 of last year, I didn't know whether it was
for two days or two years. Exactly one month later, when rock musician Michael Kocab told me that I would probably be proposed as being a presidential candidate, I thought it was a single of his usual jokes.
On the 10th of December 1989, when my actor friend Jiri Bartoska, in the name on the Civic Forum, nominated me as a candidate for that office in the president
on the republic, I thought it was out of the question that the Parliament
we experienced inherited from your previous regime
would elect me.Twelve days later, when I was unanimously elected president of my country,
I'd no notion that in two months I would be speaking in front of this famous and powerful assembly, and that I could be heard by millions of people who have never ever heard of me and that hundreds of politicians and political scientists would research each word I say.
