It's not just that it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but I'm seeing a lot of red around....
Red as an accent color to a neutral palette (but still not the black/white/red of the 80s)

OK, I realize there is a special effect going on with the drapes, but that is too much red for me.
Red is thought to symbolize love, passion, and energy.

Too much red can mean anger (not the case in this room! I love the use of red and pink as bright accent colors- but the room still feels calming).
Designer: Gokhan Avcioglu
Red is also used to symbolize luck and happiness. Love the use of a just a few red accents- the tea kettle, rug- and of course, the Viking range knobs.

Red also brings about the feeling of warmth. In this room, the red in chairs and on the valence keeps the room from feeling too cold.
And did we mention the color of romance? The bouquet is very romantic in this Regency-style dining room.
Red also can mean power (remember the red power tie?).

But to me, accents of red are just happy.

Love the depth achieved here..
And the energy here...
I've learned that my natural frenetic pace means I can't have too much red in the house- I need more calming colors. But a dash is just perfect. (is anyone else surprised that the next room is Phoebe Howard?)

ReplyDeleteI used to be a red junky, every house I designed had to have a red room....
I love red, and I have a lot of it in my house!
ReplyDeleteRed has always been my favorite color (I'm from Nebraska, what can I say?) and have always used it as an accent, but I'm so glad that I never succumbed to the red dining room that was all the rage in the 1990's. I'll admit I was tempted more than once, but when I drive around, especially at night, that red room on the front of the house looks really bad from the outside.
ReplyDeleteBut then again, I have been told I'm overly critical more than once ;-}
I agree, love red and what beautiful images, by the way! Good thing we all like red because I heard Tomato Puree is the Pantone Color of 2010. HomeStyle asked me to write an article about red so I copied it for all my readers on my blog.

Well that and I am a Georgia Bulldog!! Go red, go!
I love all these red shots...fantastic choice, xv.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty collection of red decor- the quilt in the last picture is a favorite!
ReplyDeleteoooh, these pops of red make me so happy, especially that fantastically bold chandelier!
ReplyDeleteWe have red in every room. That Georgia bulldog thing is just an aberration of a great color.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! I adore red in both large and small doses.
ReplyDeleteBtw, our sorority used a red room for its ceremonies precisely because the color is so flattering against the skin....just something to think about! :)
Red and chocolate brown are my two favorite colors. I love the pictures! Makes me want to grab a paintbrush!
ReplyDeleteRed is such an awesome color! So bold! I love the kitchen! Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteRed can mean power, love or even anger. Like you, I also love red. Actually my house's dominate color is red. I even asked a store to create a special shade of red wood flooring. Tampa's red house, that's how they describe our residence. I try to include all shades of red, and luckily it turned out good.
ReplyDeleteI love all the rooms but what is the color used on the walls in the Atlanta room that looked like an office with the table, black chair and two chairs with stripe back?
ReplyDeletePS I am also a southern girl from Mississippi and my mother's maiden name Hawkins. Where does your hubby come from?
