Why I Love Miami

It's no secret to the folks I visit for work that I would LOVE to live in South Florida. I understand that this area is not for everyone. It's crowded, loud, sometimes dirty... but it's also vibrant, fun, WARM (usually), and a whole big mix of everything.

I'm up late working tonight, but had to share a few of my reasons on why I love Miami (or Ft. Lauderdale, where I'm actually staying).

You can pull off colors in your home like these and not look completely derranged or being the talk of the town in a negative way.

The FOOD!

Stone Crabs (and other seafood)

Mojito (must have the sugarcane!)

Plantains (either sweet or crispy fried)

Cuatro Leches cake (I am a total sucker for this... had a larger piece than I should have this evening in fact!)

And one quick bit of business. I received an email from a well-informed Atlanta resident correcting one of my posts. The "Atlanta White House" is not in Druid Hills, as I had previously reported. Thank you for the information and I apologize for the error.

Hope y'all are having a great week!

  1. Hard to beat south Florida in winter. The Miami airport alone is impossibly exotic. We had 3 memorable winter vacations in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and Key West.

The White House is on Briarcliff. It and the house next door are quite a surprise and in fact quite beautiful. It's on the way to our dentist.

  2. Glad you are enjoying all that Florida has to offer! Sorry that the weather isn't a little more delightful. We have gales gusting right now. If you get to Coral Gables you should try to find Books and Books - a fabulous store: http://www.booksandbooks.com

  3. Love the art deco architecture of South Florida and all the great colors (would LOVE to paint my house teal or pink and get away with it!). But generally it's just too dang hot for me...and I'm from Houston!

  9. Ahhh, Miami! I used to work there in the winters when I was working for an NYC family. It was great to leave freezing cold of New York for the great weather of Miami. My boss had a house on a private island in North Miami Beach. I loved to shop and dine at the Bal Harbour shops! The one thing I couldn't deal with was all of the old people (probably because I was used to the pace of NYC!)!

  10. The lifeguard stands are just so awesome. Too bad I had to cancel my trip! Well, the good thing..., it was actually pretty cold in Miami just when I would have been there.

  12. What's not to love? I'm torn between South Florida and Southern California. Maybe one house in each place? Oh...a girl can dream!

  16. Emmie,

I owe you a huge apology! I have completely forgotten to do my Happy 101. I promise I will do it in the next couple of days. I've been out of town for work and had a busy weekend with my family. Please forgive me!

BTW, I love Miami...was there last year around this time and had so much fun. I would love to go back right now! So cold here.

    Hope you are well.

  19. Florida has a lot of beautiful tourists destination that we'll surely love. I also love Florida as a whole for its warm weather, friendly people, exotic beaches and great dining. I regularly visit a lot of restaurants in Destin, Florida because their food is very scrumptious and the dining itself has a very customer-friendly atmosphere.
