Pretty in Pink

Believe it or not, this is not actually a reference to the 1980s great movie (is it just me or do they not have great "chick fliks" like this anymore??) One of the fun things about Florida (perhaps any tropical place??) is how it can pull off pink buildings. I had the good fortune of being able to stay at the Boca Raton Beach resort this week- not because I have a huge travel budget but because the rates were $139 per night! (thank you, delayed Snow Birds! One upside to this economic situation is the travel deals, provided one can afford the time and the expense.)

I have, I believe, professed to you my absolute love for hotels. Make that a double during the holiday season. Few of us can pull off a 26-foot high Frasier Fir in our front yard (above). Or a 12(?)-foot fir indoors with fun sparkly snowflakes (below).

What I love the most though, are the outdoor garden spaces.

(I tried multiple times to save this image rotated correctly but each time I uploaded the photo, it was sideways. However, I LOVED the grass checkerboard and wanted to share it anyway!)

The Boca Raton resort opened in the 1930s and while it has changed over the years, it's interesting to see how much has stayed the same.

And if the Boca Resort is too old-school for you, pop on over to the Beach Club for a bit of the South Beach feel.

The lounge cushions were actually yellow when I ran (literally) over there, but I like the green and turquoise!

More eye candy of the resort...

Note- I've received no sponsorship/compensation/support/etc from the BRR. I just had a lovely few hours there- for a great price- before and after working until late late in the evenings!

Photos are a combination of mine and the resorts'.
Have a great day and fabulous weekend!

  1. What a fun - and beautiful - post! I also love a nice hotel, and as you said, especially at the holidays. Thanks for sharing these pics and have a great weekend.

  2. wow, it's a gorgeous place. that checkerboard in the grass is too funny!

  3. I loved looking at all your images, Emmie (even the sideways one). The pink is so vintage and glamorous; while the blue at The Beach Club is just making me swoon. People always ask me what my design style is...with both ends of the spectrum being so good, and these images do show both-how is a girl supposed to chose!
    Lucky Lady!

  4. You're so right; FL can absolutely pull of pink (and other Easter colored) homes to perfection. Here in Houston, a pink hotel would look like a Barbie mansion but in south Fla, it fits right in. I love the old school vibe of the first hotel, but the modern take on Fla art deco at the second is just amazing!

  5. That is here in FL?!? Ok I need to RUN to that resort!!

  6. I have been there too! It was SO nice. I actually saw Regis and Joy Philbin in the lobby one day. I loved the limeade they served in the lobby. Another wonderful pink hotel is the Don CeSar in St Pete Beach. Aww...dreaming of warmer weather.

  7. Florida is a state that can pull off so many things-pink on building being one of them. What a wonderful stay you must have had! So righ in history and beautiful architecture. I'm sure being near the beach didn't hurt either.

    Thanks for sharing your trip!

  8. The last picture is breathtaking! Thanks for sharing =)

  9. The wife says she wants to live in place where you can have pink houses, and lime green, and robins egg blue, and.... Me too.

  10. OMG, that pool...I want to drive south right now!

  11. I love the chess on the grass! That is so creative! Never have seen that before. I wish I could pack my bags now for a trip :)

  12. Emmie -- lets pack our bags and go! This looks wonderful :)
Thank you for making my day a little sunnier :)

    Wishing you a wonderful weekend*

  13. OOh, lovely hotels!! Can't wait to go on vacation again, we're waiting until Stella is about 6 months, and I'm just SO impatient!!!

    Have a fabulous Monday!!

  14. I just got home from attending Art Basel Miami Beach. I didn't stay in your palace, but nonetheless I capture some of the essence of South Beach from my photos. Deco. deco deco!

  15. MY best friend has a vacation house around the corner from there, and I just love going to visit. The place is stunning!

  16. What a beautiful place...what I would do to be tanning on that beach! :)

  17. what a great post! boca is my former hometown so i am very familiar with the hotel and the beach club. your pics totally capture the boca feeling and make me a little homesick... it's a great place to be for the holidays!
