A Visit to Santa

After attending our weekly adoption day on Saturday, Kaylee and I visited the Santa at PetSmart. Big shout-out to the group there who donated her picture as an effort to help her. Kaylee's Christmas wish? A forever home.

Last night, Mr. Southern and I, with a very excited Samantha, Tilghman, and nervous Madison, went to St. Nick's Pet Pics (blogged about below) to see Santa. Keep an eye out for their Christmas wish list later this week.

It was a crazy experience to walk into the mall with our three very large furkids, but a great educational experience for young kids (one little girl totally fell in love with Tilghman) and adults who have never been around dogs. Growing up with large dogs, I just can't imagine being afraid of our furballs! But one woman was- but ended up petting them anyway.

Next week, I think we take Kaylee to see the second Santa.

  1. is it just me or does santa look a tad bit afraid in that first shot? this is hilarious and such a good idea!

  2. I know it! Well you know, Kaylee is a scary little pittie mix. ;-) I just think the first santa is not that photogenic (no smile) and Kaylee looks pretty serious too. But Santa did say that he would help me find her a forever home so... we should have gotten the shot of her giving him kisses!

  4. Adorable! I'd love to get a picture of Olivia with Santa. I always grew up with smaller dogs, but I do think it's a shame so many folks are afraid of big dogs (who are, more often than not, calmer and friendlier than their smaller counterparts).

  5. Oh my GAWD! I think I am in love. I must read more abt this St. Nick's pets. Yes, that Santa does look scared, LOL. I have a white pittbull (Ms. Annabelle) and she is a docile as they come. I also have a mini schnauzer, my parents have a large boxer and my brother's girlfriend has a shitszu. They all play together just fine. I think for the most part pittbulls are like any breed, some are nice & some are mean. As owners, we know which kind we have and must act responsibly-but that goes for any large breed.

Annabelle is a total wimp, but I have people cross the street when I walk her (must be me they're afraid of, LOL). One thing I do to mitigate her pittbullness is paint her toe nails with fast dry nail polish.

Ok I fear I am embarrassing myself-but just want to encourage people to judge the dog not the breed and I'll bet a pittie Emmie has taken in is a great candidate for adoption!!

Emmie-you're a saint. I'll come to the burbs to visit you & your pups any day!

  6. What great photograph! After my Cali died (also adopted), i swore I could not go through the pain once again but broke down upon reading an article about dogs being dropped off at the pound as their owners could no longer afford to care for them or were evicted from their homes. Off my husband and son went to the Yonkers shelter in new York in search of a small dog...and came back with 2 mixed pitbulls....They will have a wonderful Christmas this year!!! They love their life of playing, sleeping on sofas or beds, running crazy, chasing squirrels.....

  9. We vowed to make sure our little crumb grew up surrounded by animals because not only does it make them better people, but more considerate and kind to all living things. She is almost two and LOVES any creature great and small.
