Weekend Wrapup

Good Morning! I hope y'all had a great weekend- and that those in the US had a fabulous Thanksgiving. The holiday season has begun!

We had a great time shopping at the cute little boutiques in St. Michael's Maryland...

(this picture does NOT do St. Michael's justice but I forgot my camera!)

and some shopping in downtown Frederick, Maryland ("home").

Downtown Frederick has really matured since I lived there- makes me kick myself that I am too risk-averse to have opened my dream wine/kitchen store there!

I saw a message that really resonated with me- sort of like the 3/50 project.
So my goal this holiday season is to find more thoughtful/unique gifts from smaller shops. I can't limit myself to brick and mortar as I love Etsy and so many other online boutiques! But I think the intention is the same. (That said, to be clear, I don't think Big Box is necessarily the enemy- and we are actually a household employed through large retailers- so I will stray from this a little bit.) OK, before I alienate everyone, onto politics. ;-)

On our way home, via National airport, we stopped by the FDR memorial. Fantastic views....

and amazing how many of the messages at FDR's memorial are applicable to today.

(note: this is not intended to convey a political message, but rather it's fascinating how history can repeat itself).

While we had a great weekend with family, I am celebrating our return to our furkids!

  2. What a beautiful town you grew up in! It sounds like your Thanksgiving was one to remember. Now here comes December!!

  3. Wow, it looks like you had quite a lovely weekend getaway! I've only been to Baltimore once, but I've always liked the 'idea' of Maryland. It looks like such a nice blend of New England and South!! I so appreciate the extra thoughts...you have no idea. And never apologize for showering me with comments! I love them because it means my ramblings aren't for naught! (bad, bad Microsoft!)

  4. I've read town and country for years - really upscale lifestyle magazine. Great pics, fashion, jewelry, and homes. I enjoy it - just don't look at the price tags whatever you do! :)

  5. I'm envious of your childhood hometown -- how charming!

And it IS sad how history repeats itself. I just hope this time around isn't as long lasting or as painful (and that we don't need a world war to come out of it!)

  6. Oh my goodness! I LOVE St. Michaels!
Did you eat at the Crab Claw??

Thanks again ~~ Perfect Blue Crab to remind you of the Chesapeake Bay!!

  7. Do you follow the Etsy Blog, the Storque? They profile people, do groupings of like type items to feature. Do you know where Volt is in Frederick? One of the remaining Top Chef contestants (and a really good one) is there.

  8. Will have to check out the Storque. Yes- I know exactly where Volt is though we didn't get a chance to eat there. I just can't believe it's in little old Frederick!

And Laura- thank you!! we didn't eat at the Crab Claw this time, but did during our list trip. There's a cute little eatery just down the road with the best oyster soup ever. Seriously. And for those who need a little East Coast, check out Laura's Etsy store! I did order the blue crab from her-- as a Christmas gift for someone! She has some fantastic art.
